UMPIRE TIP:

Late Arrivals

If a player arrives late, they make take the court immediately after a goal is scored, however, they must first inform the umpires and they need to have their nails and jewellery checked. They must play the position that has been left vacant. They may also take the court at a stoppage for injury/illness or at the end of the quarter. In these instances, positional changes may be made by both teams.

Please read Rule 5 on page 15 – 16 of the Official Rule Book for full details of this rule.

Please ensure you or your team fulfils your umpiring requirements. Umpiring fines for non-supply of an umpire are:
  • 1st umpire missing on the day $55
  • 2nd umpire missing on the day $110
  • 3rd umpire missing on the day $165
  • 4th umpire missing on the day $220

These amounts accumulate so if we miss two games we will be fined a total of $165 and these amounts will be charged to and payable by the team who have been allocated the game.

If you cannot meet your allocation please arrange a swap with another team for a different time/date.

Thanks to everyone who umpired junior games in week 5. A special mention to Vanessa Tilse from Cadet 1 (8) who has just joined Gazelles this year.  Thanks Vanessa for supporting our club with your umpiring talent – your umpiring was great and you had a lovely manner with our junior players.

I would like to remind the spectators from our morning teams that our new umpires are doing the best they can and need your support, not your criticism. It makes the umpire’s job even more difficult when they are receiving remarks from the sidelines. Umpiring is a difficult task and our girls are volunteering their time to our club – without them there would be no game. Please think next time before you open your mouth to criticise – one day your daughter may want to learn to umpire………..

Great news this week is that the Red Award is Back!!  I have just received an email from BHSNA Umpires Committee with an updated red award workbook and test, based on the new rule book. I will be organising a Red Award Workshop for new umpires soon – keep your eyes out for a date in this newsletter.

In the meantime, don’t forget the Section 1 Umpires Exam is available online on the Netball NSW website.  Please forward me a copy of your completed certificate.

For umpires on the 8.00am timeslot, please note that the players at this timeslot only may wear a navy top or leggings under their uniforms.
