NETTA Netball is the modified game of Netball for 8-10 year old boys and girls. It provides an environment where the emphasis is not on "win at all costs" but rather on the development of skills, the discovery of new ones and sharing the play with other team mates.
Netta incorporates the following:
- 7 and 8 year olds shoot into a lower ring. 9 year olds use the standard ring.
- Games consist of four 10 minute quarters with a 2 minute break at half time and a one minute break at quarter and three quarter time.
- Players must rotate through all positions during the season.
- Rules are modified to allow players to learn and develop and to prevent the game from continually stopping due to infringements. Eg Players are allowed up to 6 seconds between catching and passing on the ball, minimal shuffling is allowed etc. Umpires will explain infringements as they occur.
- There is no points table and therefore no finals. All Netta teams attend a compulsory red robin Gala Day at the end of the season where medallions are presented.
- Gazelles may grade the older teams so that teams are comprised of players with a similar ability. We will try to accommodate keeping friends together wherever possible, however this cannot be guaranteed.
All Netta players are expected to train one night a week at a time and day determined by the coach of the team. Please remember that our coaches are volunteers and have their own commitments. The coach will be accommodating wherever possible, but it is impossible to suit everyone. Some players may have to change other commitments to meet their training commitment. It is imperative that all players train as a team.
